Swim suit for baby

A swim suit for babies is typically used for baby swimming, as not all of them have UV protection. A baby swim suit will keep the child warm in the water, as well as provide a better grip around the baby. You are therefore guaranteed a great grip on the baby, so that you can more easily control the movements.

Parents must make many considerations when it comes to swimwear for babies. Particularly in what it must be able to do, in relation to the surroundings you are in. At the beach, UV swimwear for babies is a must, while it makes more sense with a baby swimsuit when you are going to the swimming pool.

A great swim suits gives the best options

When going to baby swimming, it's important that your baby swimwear is approved for swimming pools. This specifically means that they must be able to keep in any leaks. Therefore, it is always recommended to use a swim nappy and/or nappy swim trunks, so that you are 100% covered. Once this is sorted out, there are baby swimsuits for every purpose.

If you are going to the beach or the pool, where there will be a lot of sun, it is important that you use a baby swim suit with a built-in UV filter. But if the activity takes place in a swimming pool - for instance during baby swimming, UV protection is not important. This also means that there are many different types of swim suits for babies, all of which have their own advantages.

For instance, it could be important to find a swim suit with great mobility if your baby splashes or moves around a lot in the water. But the most important thing is to find a swim suit that provides the right heat protection. Some babies are more sensitive to the cold than others, and often it is only when they start shaking that you realize they are freezing.

As such, it may be a great idea to find a swim suit for babies who are perhaps fleece lined. It is comfortable to wear and provides extra heat protection.

Think of the purpose of a swim suit

Many babies can have a hypersensitivity to chlorine water, and as such it could be a great idea to add an extra layer of protection. In this case it can therefore be an advantage to use a swim suit for babies, as it ensures that the skin is not in the contact with chlorine water to the same extent.

As such, you can also get these with long sleeves and legs, while also providing extra heat protection. You could alternatively consider using a bathing poncho to wrap around the baby when they are not in the water.

In addition, it can also be difficult if the baby has to wear 3 layers in the form of a swim nappy, nappy bathing trunks and a wetsuit. Therefore, you can of course find a swimsuit for babies in which that part is integrated.

Obviously this may require you to wash the swimsuit somewhat more often than you would otherwise prefer. But in the end it's all about what's easiest for you and best for your child.

Prolong the longevity of a baby swimsuit with the proper maintenance

Just like with most other swimwear, a baby swimsuit requires special maintenance. Not because it requires more care, it's more about the right kind of care.

Since they are made from a material with a very specific function, they also require that you don't stretch or wear too much on the fabric. As such, you should always hand wash them in cold water. If there has been an accident, and they need a "proper" wash in the washing machine, we would recommend washing them at max. 30 degrees and preferably without centrifugation. This is because much of their protective function is in the fibers of the fabric, and if they are pulled and stretched too much, the swimsuit loses its function.

For this very reason, we would not recommend putting them in the dryer either. As the high temperature will unnecessarily wear down the clothing fibers, and they will gradually develop cracks in the fabric or feel frayed. As such, it is better to let them air dry - but not in direct sunlight, as this can have the same effect.

So to summarize:

  • Handwash in cold water
  • Don't tumble dry, but let the swimsuit air dry
  • If they need a "proper" wash, preferably wash them by hand with soap shavings, instead of the machine
  • Don't wash the swimsuit with detergents containing bleach.
