Swim goggles
To both your and our rescue (especially yours), we have a huge selection of different swim goggles - in all sorts of colours, shapes and brands right here. Whether you're an elite/competitive swimmer, just learning to swim or swimming for the sake of exercising, we have a pair of swim goggles for you. Everything from Aquasphere's very popular swim goggles for kids to Speedo's swim goggles for the serious swimmer. And of course, we also have something for everyone in between.
Swimming without swim goggles is probably the worst thing we know here at Watery (and yet we've done it several times, and once during an entire training session - and you've probably done it too). You get red eyes for days afterwards, your eyes sting like hell (because you have to open your eyes, otherwise your head hurts when you hit the edge - it's impossible to orientate yourself without goggles!) and you just look like a complete idiot when you try to swim straight ahead only to end up over in the lane barrier.
But now you're probably thinking: Holy sh*t, how stupid you are to even swim without swim goggles when there are so many super nice, incredibly cheap and pretty good ones available today. And yes, you're absolutely right - it's stupid, but we just wanted to illustrate to you how happy and grateful you should be that a guy invented swim goggles 100 years ago. Because you certainly wouldn't spend so many hours a year swimming if you didn't have swim goggles. On the other hand, if you're going diving, you might want to get a diving mask.
No. That's the short answer, but we want to make you even more knowledgeable about the world of swimming, so we'll give you a slightly longer answer:
There isn't, as swim goggles can be manually adjusted in their strings/elastics using a simple system that even a 6-year-old can figure out (and this is especially good if your 6-year-old boy/girl is a swimmer and therefore needs to adjust his/her swim goggles himself/herself - he/she will be able to do it). Also, it takes no time at all to change the tightness of the elastic. Two seconds and it's done.
But there's also the "clamp" between the two lenses, you might be thinking? Because these are different, but in this case you are lucky enough to have 3 different "nose bridges" included with the swim goggles, so you can insert the right one that fits best around your nose. This way, the swim goggles will neither be too tight nor too loose around the nose, but just sit perfectly and comfortably.
A very individual question, but one that still requires some attention. Because this is where many parents in particular get it wrong. When we talk about rubber/foam on swim goggles, we are talking about what sits between the lenses and the skin around the eyes.
Well, firstly, we might as well establish that the vast majority of people today swim WITH rubber. This is due to the fact that many more swim goggles are made with rubber today (Arena, Speedo, Aquasphere and TYR are all made with rubber). Examples of this include the Speedo Speedsocket, but also that it is much more comfortable with the rubber between the skin around the eyes and the relatively hard lenses. This is because the rubber helps to take some of the "pressure" off the lenses of the goggles. The rubber also helps the swim goggles to sit more firmly around the eyes.
So, according to us, and the majority of other swimmers/athletes/kids, you should choose a pair of swim goggles with rubber
However, when someone chooses to swim with foam instead of rubber, it's often because they have some kind of allergy to rubber and can't use it. Or they just find foam more comfortable, which is fair enough. As such, there is no difference between foam and rubber other than the material. They have the same function - to minimise the discomfort of the hard glass against the skin when we swim for hours on end. NOTE: If you want swim goggles without rubber, we always recommend our Malmsten swim goggles here.
There are so many different types of swim goggles out there that it can sometimes be a jungle to navigate through them all. They also come in all sorts of colours and shapes for swimmers of different levels. But don't worry!
We're going to change that below and make it a little easier for you to choose the best pair of swim goggles for your specific situation. So whether you're a swimmer on a kids' team or an elite swimmer, you'll be able to find a pair for you.
