How to take care of your new swimwear

So now you have received your new swimwear, and you are about to use it. Already at this point, many people make simple mistakes - which is often the reason that a lot of swimwear doesn't survive more than a season. Because of this we have found our 6 best tips, so you can look after your new swimwear - and if you follow theses guidelines, we promise you that it will double the lifetime of your swimsuit!

1. Don't share your swimwear with others

Even though it's a good thing to be helpful, this will affect the fit and the size of the swimsuit, when you get it back after having lent it out. This is because swimwear quickly adapts to the swimmer's bodies.

2. Rinse in cold water after each use

This may seem like a big deal, but it takes 5 seconds after each practice - and it's the tip that has the greatest effect on the durability of your swimwear. Simply because you force the microfibers in the clothes to be like before you used it. This alone can make you double the lifetime of the swimsuit - so don't forget this.

3. Do not tumble dry

It can sound quick and easy to stuff the wet swimwear in the drier to make it dry quickly, but it hurts the swimwear in the long run. The fibers expand and the colour bleeds into other textiles in the drier

4. Don't machine wash
   

Along the same lines, swimwear also doesn't really like to be put in the washing machine. And you don't have to. As long as you make sure to rinse it in cold water after use, and then dry it outside, it's more than ready for the next time you need it, without it getting smelly.

5. Keep your swimwear away from soap
   

Yes, it's pretty important that you don't get soap on your swimwear. It simply destroys the fibers in the swimwear. And you will also get rinsed more thoroughly under the shower if you're not wearing it.

6. Hang it up to dry after use
   

Many people leave their wet swimwear in the bag. This isn't just gross, but it will also make the swimwear smell bad. So make sure that you hang it up after use.

Swimwear sizes

A lot - as in a lot - of people gets confused about the size of swimwear. And we completely understand.

Because sizes and swimwear is a bit tricky. It's not like regular clothes, where (mostly) all brands go with the same size model with Small, Medium, Large etc.

Instead the different brands in swimming like Speedo, TYR and Arena, has their very own size-models and guides. They also measure all their swimwear in UK sizes (same as US sizes), which isn't easily compared to normal small-medium-large sizes.

Apart from this, a size 30 UK in Arena isn't the same as a size 30 UK in Speedo, and this is where things get sporty.

So the best way, and the way we recommend, to find the right swimwear size, is by following our own home-made size charts, which is made from body measurements.
