Our best and most popular starter wetsuit for women is the Reptile Core - and where you get the most value for money. With an unprecedented flexibility from the Yamamoto neoprene, high visibility on the sleeves, a lowered neckline, smooth skin surface treatment and speed-cuff panels on the arms and legs for lightning-quick changes. The Reptile core is suitable for both the short and long swim in the sea for first-timers/starting triathletes and open water swimmers.
Unlike our other wetsuits, the entire arm panel on the Reptile Core is made of the most flexible and light Yamamoto 2 mm neoprene, which ensures comfortable arm coverage and minimizes fatigue. Something that is special is well seen in newer swimmers. This also makes the wetsuit suitable for breaststroke.
The rest of the wetsuit is equipped with 2.5 mm smooth-skin Yamamoto #39 neoprene. Yamamoto has been the world's leading manufacturer of neoprene since 1961 and unlike typical neoprene which is based on oil, Yamamoto's is based on limestone. This gives the suit a far more resistant durability and flexibility in its basic form. The distribution of the neoprene with a little thicker on the chest and legs gives the necessary buoyancy in the legs, so that you get the high body position in the water, as well as good warmth for the body.
In the development, visibility has also been a particularly high priority. The purple colour is the most visible colour, which ensures that others in the water will always have you in sight. This colour is also added on the back of the leg so that you are seen there as well.
The Reptile Core is constructed from the leading Yamamoto #39 neoprene, which, in addition to its long durability without sagging, is also particularly known for its high heat resistance. This keeps the body warm in colder water, enabling you to swim for a longer time in the water with high performance.
Therefore, the Watery Reptile Core wetsuit can also be used in water that is between 10 and 26 degrees. In Ireland, it is typically from mid-April to the end of September.
The openings at the neck, wrists, and ankles are made with special no-leak panels with a built-in lighter elastic, so that the wetsuit does not fill up with cold water inside. To still avoid the typical discomfort in these areas, the panels also only consist of one layer. The neckline is also lowered so that it aligns more naturally around the neck and closes perfectly with the curved Velcro closure at the back, so you avoid unpleasant chafing wounds on the neck.
The suit zips on the back with the most durable zip, YKK, in stainless steel and also has a string attached to it, so you can easily pull the zip up even over your head.
Your fast swimming also means nothing if you can't get the wetsuit off quickly in T1. Therefore, both the ends of the arms and legs are equipped with the special speed-cuff panels on the inside, so you can quickly and easily take the suit off again.
The correct treatment of the wetsuit after each trip in the water is crucial for durability on the longer course. The neoprene in the wetsuit is damaged over time by too much salt (in the sea) or too much chlorine (in a swimming pool).
You should wash the wetsuit in cold water after each use and if it has become particularly dirty add a bit of pH-neutral soap to maintain the neoprene optimally.
Then it should be hung to dry until the moisture both inside and outside is gone before it is folded up / put away. This can either be done indoors (with good ventilation) or outdoors (but not in direct sunlight)
When the wetsuit is to be stored, it is important that you do not simply crumple it up. Instead, it should be hung on a hanger across the middle so that it does not fold on the most sensitive areas (shoulders, arms, legs) and the construction of the wetsuit is maintained.
