Wetsuit 5 mm
A 5 mm wetsuit is well suited to most water sports activities practised all year round in Denmark. It is a good all-round wetsuit that offers a good compromise between thermal insulation and mobility. In this category you can find our selection of 5 mm wetsuits, so you can get dressed just right for your favourite water sports activities.
It's important to choose a wetsuit with the right thickness for the temperatures you'll be using it in. A wetsuit that is too thick in tropical climates will feel like wearing a woollen jumper in 40 degree heat. In addition, it also depends on the type of water sports you do, depending on how much you move.
Fortunately, there are some general guidelines to follow. Normally, you won't need a wetsuit in water temperatures above 22 degrees, unless you're going to be in the water for an extended period of time, such as snorkelling or UV hunting. From 22 degrees down to 15 degrees, it's recommended to use a 3 mm wetsuit, but below 15 degrees, you'll need a 5 mm wetsuit.
However, the thicker the wetsuit, the less flexible it becomes, but there are solutions to this. Some wetsuits don't have the same thickness across the entire suit, but are thinner in the areas where you move more.
This is where a 5 mm wetsuit really comes into its own. It spans a wide temperature range, but with room to make it more flexible around certain areas. This makes it ideal for most water sports activities that can be practised in Ireland.
Even though a 3 mm wetsuit can handle most things, many will still find it too thin if the wind or water is too cold. This is especially true if you use it for SUP or snorkelling. Conversely, aΒ 7 mm wetsuit can feel too warm and inflexible unless it's very windy and the temperature is around zero.
Here, a 5 mm wetsuit is a great all-round solution that works well in most weather situations. As long as it's not too hot or cold, a 5 mm wetsuit can handle most things. So, for example, you'll be able to SUP most of the year in Ireland with a 5 mm wetsuit, as it protects against cold and cold winds.
It also works really well for open water swimming, but here you need to pay a little more attention to some things. Since open water swimming generates a lot more body heat than, for example, snorkelling, a 5 mm wetsuit may seem too warm. Therefore, it depends on how cold you are or how much you get your heart rate up.
If you're on the cold side, neoprene gloves, neoprene socks and a neoprene hood are a good idea. This way you'll be able to retain heat much better.
It is important to rinse your wetsuit thoroughly in cold fresh water after each use. Salt and chlorine will eventually dissolve and soften the materials if not rinsed off the wetsuit. Washing your wetsuit at temperatures above 37 Celsius will dissolve the adhesive, making the wetsuit more prone to leaks.
Afterwards, it's significant to let it air dry before storing it. It is especially essential that it is completely dry, as otherwise mould can accumulate in the wet areas of the suit.
We may not have the biggest selection, but you can be sure that the wetsuits you find here are of the highest quality. We know that a bad wetsuit can easily ruin the whole experience, either due to excessive water flow or an uncomfortable fit.
