Swim belt for kids
It's now iconic when it comes to kids learning to swim - the swim belt. Often accompanied by swim wings, which together can make kids look like a cork in the water. In this category you'll find different models of swim belts - from the more classic to the more colourful - all of which provide good buoyancy.
Actually, their function is the same, and as such, one does not provide better buoyancy than the other. This is mainly because that part depends almost entirely on the weight of the kid.
The most important function of a swim belt for kids is to provide buoyancy around the waist so they can swim with their arms and legs more easily. It lifts the body's main centre of gravity, so kids don't have to exert effort to stay afloat.
Combining a swim belt for kids with a pair of swim wings ensures that the two main centres of gravity are lifted, so kids don't have to struggle to keep their heads above water. At the same time, this combination allows them to take a break while in the water before continuing their swim.
For those kids who are starting to master swimming techniques, a swim belt can provide the final support they need. Often, you'll find that kids who are close to being able to swim still require a certain amount of buoyancy. Here, a swim belt is an obvious solution, as it provides the right support without hindering freedom of movement, as can be the case with swim wings.
Whether it's the pool, the swimming pool or the beach, a swim belt for kids will help them keep their head above water. For something a little more festive, they can achieve the same effect with a shark fin that will turn their buoyancy into a water game. This allows you to swim around like a βdangerousβ shark, but still experience the buoyancy of a swim belt.
In general, it is very different when kids learn to swim. Therefore, it is also very different when they no longer need help to stay afloat. For this reason, swim wings are mostly seen as the beginner's stage and the ones kids throw away first.
From there, a swim belt will be a great help until kids are such good swimmers that they don't need any kind of buoyancy. It won't bother them and won't hinder their development of swimming techniques.
However, there is an alternative to the combination of swim wings and swim belt for kids that covers both functions - a swim vest for kids. It will lift the entire body, so there's no need to wear swim wings or a belt. The downside, however, is that it doesn't provide any intermediate stages in between the need for buoyancy. It's an either/or situation.
A swim belt - in combination with swim wings - offers a unique opportunity to gradually reduce the aids and thus the buoyancy. This allows kids to drop the fins when they can almost swim and hold themselves up, while still maintaining a buoyancy that keeps them safe in the water. Then, once they've mastered the swimming techniques, it's easy to drop the belt.
This makes for a much more natural transition from learning to swim to becoming a competent swimmer. Often kids will ask for the belt to come off when they start to feel confident in the water.
However, it's important to choose a belt that can provide the right buoyancy for their weight. That's why you should always look at the weight rating and not the age rating when buying swimming belts for kids. If the kid weighs too much in relation to the buoyancy capacity, a swim belt can actually become a hindrance rather than a help.
On this page you will find different models of swim belts, but their function is the same. However, there are differences in their comfort and, of course, appearance. Some of them are more decorative than the classic swim belt.
