Speedo event suit

On this page you will find some of the best event suits Speedo has to offer. You will therefore be able to find Speedo event suits to suit all levels, as you should consider price and technical swimming level. Speedo event suits are often on the higher end of the price range, and for good reason, but it also means you need to consider what you'll be using it for.

Why a Speedo event suit is better than a regular swimsuit?

The most obvious is, of course, the material they're made from. Whereas a regular Speedo swimsuit is mostly designed to keep you comfortable on your beach holiday, an event swimsuit is made to give you as much speed in the water as possible.

This also means that comfort and durability are significantly reduced compared to regular swimsuits. This is especially true when it comes to the materials used in the two different types of swimsuits.

A regular Speedo swimsuit is usually made of nylon and polyester, which makes them mostly chlorine resistant and good at keeping the fit as much as possible. Therefore, they will also last a very long time if you follow their washing instructions. On the other hand, they are not very streamlined, which is due to the fact that they absorb a lot of water, which increases water resistance considerably.

On the other hand, a Speedo event suit is made of polyamide and elastane, which makes them water resistant and elastic. This also means that they fit very tightly and mould to the body, while still being water resistant. Therefore, an event suit does not become heavy with water, which greatly reduces water resistance.

Which Speedo event suit should you choose?

While it mostly comes down to personal preference, there are still some things to consider. Firstly, an event suit should fit VERY tightly, so that it feels like an extra layer of skin and not just a swimsuit or tracksuit.

Therefore, you also need to give yourself plenty of time to put it on, as it can take up to 20 minutes to get a Speedo event suit on correctly. And it's important to take your time! We find that people tear a hole in their event suit because they are too eager and put it on too quickly.

Speedo event suits are made to give you the highest possible speed with the least amount of fabric. So even though they have elastane in them, they still have a breaking point that you often experience when you're impatient. This is mainly because - to get the best results - you need an event suit that is 4 sizes smaller than a training or swimsuit. That's why you will also find a size guide for the different suits in our range.

Therefore, we also recommend that you have 2 training swimsuits that are only used for training and 1-2 event suits that are only used for competitions. But why is that? Well, because an event swimsuit starts to lose its benefits after you've used it around 15 times. From there, the materials become loose and don't fit quite as tightly, which increases water resistance.

But why do you need 2 event suits? For the simple reason that it depends on the swimming disciplines you compete in. That's why you can also choose a Speedo event suit with an open or closed back. The open back gives you much more freedom of movement, but can also hinder you.

Why you'll be much faster in a Speedo event suit

One thing, of course, is their tight-fitting properties that minimise water resistance. Quite another is the way a Speedo event suit is built.

Specifically, it's about the way a Speedo event suit provides high compression. This increases your blood flow, which will make it more efficient at removing lactic acid. Therefore, you don't acidify as easily and you avoid tired muscles.

In addition, compression squeezes you tightly together, making your entire body more streamlined and reducing water resistance.

These are just some of the benefits of a Speedo event suit, but that's not all. Since a Speedo event suit has no visible stitching or seams, it will further reduce your water resistance. This means that the water flows over the suit and doesn't get "trapped" and create turbulence. It gives you those extra milliseconds at 50 metres.

Have you got your equipment sorted?

While a Speedo event suit gives you a great advantage in the water and at competitions, it's not the only way you'll cut crucial seconds off your time.

Of course, this also requires a good swim cap and, not least, an effective pair of swimming goggles. When it comes to your training, you can't do without pullbouys and swim boards. If you're looking for a good pair of swimming trunks for events, you can find them right here.
