How to care for your competition swimwear

Competition swimsuits and swim shorts are technical gear with bonded seams and applied labels. They'll last longest and hold their shape and compression if you treat them with care:

• Rinse right away in cold, clean water after each use—even after swimming in chlorine or salt water. Don’t wait until you get home.
• Hand wash only. Never use the washing machine or tumble dryer. Heat, spinning, and rubbing all break down the fibers and loosen seams and labels.
• Use mild soap or detergent meant for swimwear. Skip bleach and fabric softeners.
• Never wring out your suit. Just gently squeeze out the water.
• Dry it flat in the shade, away from direct sun, radiators or any other heat source.
• Don’t leave your suit wet in your bag or rolled in a towel—it traps heat and chemicals that break down the material.
• Avoid rough surfaces like pool edges and tiles, which can pull at seams and labels.
