Competition/training goggles for kids

If you have a little elite swimmer who just loves training and competitions, you can't do without competition swimming goggles. On this page, you'll find all our best kids' competition swimming goggles so your kid can optimise their performance as much as possible. They are especially important for both orientating in the water and protecting the eyes. In fact, we would argue that it's impossible to compete without a pair of competition swimming goggles, which applies to all age groups.

Choose the right competition swimming goggles for kids

There are a wide range of different competition swimming goggles for kids, all with different capabilities. Some are small in design, while others take up more of the face, which has different benefits. One important characteristic to look for is whether they are hydrodynamic, which affects their water resistance. So the more hydrodynamic they are, the faster you'll be in the water.

The swimming goggles with the smallest lenses are usually the ones that adults swim with, as they don't take up more space than they need to and therefore offer the least water resistance. They provide a smaller view - especially peripherally - which helps you focus on specific points in the pool without being distracted by your surroundings.

In contrast, competition swimming goggles with larger lenses will provide a wider view and fit more tightly to the face. This gives kids a wide field of vision without worrying about the goggles falling off or water getting in. This makes it possible to see your competitors next to you.

In general, there is an opinion that small competition swimming goggles that only cover the eyes are best in swimming pools. Those with larger lenses are best suited for competitive open water swimming, such as triathlons. This is because the larger surface area they attach to the face makes them almost impossible to knock off if hit by waves.

In addition, they can provide a little more security in the water due to the extra visibility, so kids who use them can better orientate themselves in the water without the urge to take them off.

Although these are general opinions, they largely depend on what kids themselves feel most comfortable wearing. At their age, it's more important that they develop a taste for swimming and competition, which is best achieved by making them feel comfortable with the sport.

As they get older, you can always start optimising the different equipment. In childhood, it's mostly about them having personal success, which is best achieved by the comfort they experience when they're in the water.

Got a grip on the lenses?

Not only are there different sizes of competition swimming goggles for kids, but there are also different types of lenses. It may not seem like a big deal, but it actually has a huge impact on visibility and therefore orientation.

Actually, you can think of the different lenses as sunglasses, as it's mostly the incidence of light that you want to regulate. Therefore, we have listed the different benefits of the lenses and where they are best used:

  • Clear lenses: Allows you to see everything in its natural colour, making them most suitable for use where lighting conditions are low and there is no bright light. Therefore, you are not particularly suitable for outdoor use where there may be strong sunlight, but are best suited for indoor pools or public swimming pools.
  • Smoke lenses: Here, a small grey/black filter has been added over the lenses to make the lighting more subdued. They are far from completely dark, but are more of a cross between clear lenses and mirror lenses, making them suitable for both indoor and outdoor use where light conditions are not too strong or too low..
  • Mirror lenses: As the name suggests, these lenses act as a mirror that reflects a large amount of sunlight away from the eyes. Therefore, they also provide a very dark view, which is very beneficial in bright light conditions. It works both indoors and outdoors, but only where the light is bright enough, otherwise you won't be able to see much through the lenses.
  • Blåt lenses: This type of lens provides clear vision, but with a blue filter, which is particularly beneficial against strong flashes of light. Therefore, they are also perfect for use on open water, where you may experience strong flashes of light from the sun or water surface. As they still provide a clear view, they are especially recommended for general use, both indoors and outdoors.

In addition, most lenses have UV protection, which is especially important when swimming outdoors. They are also anti-fog treated so they won't fog up during use, which would render them unusable. However, they do need to be treated regularly to prevent fogging, which is easily done with an anti-fog spray.

Do you have the rest of your equipment in order?

We would always recommend having one pair of swimming goggles for competition and one or two pairs for training. Since everything should be in top shape and in the best condition for competition, it's important that you don't wear out your competition swimming goggles during training. Otherwise, you run the risk of scratching the lenses during training or the silicone skirt and strap becoming too loose. This increases the risk of water getting in or them coming off while swimming.

Competition swimming goggles are one thing, which is perhaps the most important part of chasing records and victories, but not the only important thing. When swimming competitively, it's important to minimise water resistance as much as possible. Hair is the main culprit here, and if you're going for the good times, a swim cap is hard to beat.

Luckily, we have a wide range of swim caps for kids that are also suitable for competition. In addition, they will also protect the hair and make sure you don't get water on your face when swimming, which can be very distracting - especially in the middle of a competition.

Equally important, of course, is a competition swimsuit or a pair of competition swimming trunks. Again, it's all about minimising water resistance as much as possible and streamlining the body as it moves through the water. That's why it's important to choose swimwear designed for competition, as it will provide the extra percentage needed on the bottom line.

In addition, a good microfibre towel and a microfibre bathing poncho can also be an advantage, as they are quick-drying, which means they can dry the skin effectively after each trip in the water. In addition, a bathing poncho will also help keep you warm between competitions or training sessions.

Another important thing when it comes to kids and water is to protect their ears. Many kids are more prone to ear infections, which can be prevented with a pair of earplugs for swimming. They're comfortable to wear, easy to use and protect against water, cold air, dirt and bacteria. And you can wear them under a swim cap for extra protection. If you have a kid who gets water in their nose, we also recommend a nose clip.

Last but not least, the medals kids win shouldn't be hidden away in a drawer, but displayed with the pride that comes with it. And it's even easier with a stylish medal holder that fits in most kids' rooms.
