How to take best care of your swimming goggles

Swimming goggles are an important part of the entire swimming experience, regardless of whether it is for competition, training or water and diving games. Therefore there are also a sea of swimming googles, which all have their advantages, special characteristics and sometimes disadvantages. For that reason, it is also important to take good care of your swimming goggles when you have finally found a pair that fits perfectly, works as they should and meets all your requirements - and there are actually only a few things you need to do, because to make them last longer.

Although swimming goggles come in many different price ranges, good maintenance of them is really the same, regardless of whether it is the very expensive swimming goggles for competition, them to work out or meticulous. So with some very simple advice and a little extra attention, you can have your favorite swimming goggles for a long time.

1. Always store and transport the swimming goggles in a case

When the swimming goggles are not in use, they should always be in place a casei! It is the best protection at any time, and can extend their life significantly. Not least because a case protects the entire swimming goggle so that the lenses do not get scratched, the elastic does not become slack and the closing/fastening mechanism does not take a hit and thus break. There are different cases, some of which are not better than others as such, but there are different parameters you can look for:

Does the case have a hard or soft shell

Does it have a lining or soft interior - and possibly compartments and elastics

How durable is the zipper

It has small holes for drainage of water and ventilation

Is it made of hard rigid plastic or can the case give a little

The advantage of having a case with a hard shell is that they can better withstand shock and pressure in e.g. a swimming bag. That kind of protector a soft case not as well received, but on the other hand, it does not take up as much space and can be more easily in small rooms.

Most cases have some kind of soft lining that also protects against impact, pressure and scratches, but the smartest cases for swimming goggles also has room for storage. This makes it possible to fasten them better so that they do not move around in the case during transport. This kind of thing can also cause scratches. It can also be that they have an elastic band instead, but they can do the job just as well.

Last but not least, it should be mentioned that many of the best cases also have holes that drain the interior of water and create ventilation, so that it avoids mold and deposits on the swimming goggles.

2. Avoid adjusting the straps too much

If the swimming goggles fit as they should without pressing and causing soreness around the eyes, they are the right length. Here you can note where that length is, so ONLY adjust the straps if they move past the marking. Every time you pull and adjust the straps, they will become a little more readable and fragile in the material.

This means that they will eventually break, especially if you have jerked them every time they have been in your hands. However, you may find that, despite good maintenance, they can break over time - but fear not, because you can find a brand new pair right away here.

3. Avoid picking too much at the bridge of the nose

The smart thing about the good swimming goggles is that you can change the bridge of the nose so that they better suit the individual person. However, you must avoid pulling them too much or changing them all the time, as this will wear on the fine mechanics that make it possible to change the bridge of the nose.

It will therefore become too loose, which will result in the swimming goggles coming apart when you swim or bathe with them - and if that part is the first to break, then you often need a new pair of swimming goggles.

4. Always keep them in the same place

Regardless of whether it is at home, in the swimming bag or the changing room, it is a great advantage to always have them in the same place. In this way, you avoid e.g. that they end up in the bottom of the swim bag among all sorts of other equipment that can scratch or tear the lenses, stretch the straps or destroy the tensioning mechanism.

In addition, it also becomes much easier to find your swimming goggles when you always know where they are.

5. Never throw with swimming goggles

Whether in frustration or by accident, throwing swimming goggles is the most effective way to destroy them. You can be unlucky enough that one hard encounter between tiles and swimming goggles is enough to smash a lens. In addition, it will scratch the lenses and one scratch in the wrong place on the lens can damage the vision enough to render them useless.

6. Always rinse in cold fresh water after each use

Salt and chlorinated water are generally hard on the materials swimming equipment is made of - and this also applies to swimming goggles. Not that it works as effectively as acid or bases, but enough that it will eventually soften the various materials. Over time, this will destroy the eyecups and make the swimming goggles leaky, as well as make the straps more rigid so that they jump more easily.

If you therefore rinse off the salt and chlorine water after each use, you will significantly extend the life of the swimming goggles. Remember to dry them well before smoking in the case.

With these simple tips and a little common sense, your swimming goggles will last a very long time. They can be particularly important to those who use swimming goggles in different strengths, as it can be difficult to find a new pair with exactly the strength ratio you need. In addition, the advice can also be used for diving goggles, swimming masks and diving masks, and if you need a little help to find just what you need, you can get more help and inspiration right away here.
