Full Diver Set – Recommendations

A good diving kit obviously includes a good diving mask, a good pair of diving fins and a proper snorkel. From this point, however, there is a big difference between the different sets in relation to where they are best used. Therefore, you ought to make some specific considerations before buying your next diving kit.

The biggest difference between the diving masks found in these sets mostly concerns the shape and design of the frame and skirt, and whether they are with full or two-piece glass. The skirt is available as transparent, which provides more light in the mask, and thus a wider view. The coloured skirts will shield some light, making it easier to focus on specific things underwater. A full glass will provide a better view, while the two-piece ones are more robust in their construction.

• The first one is the simplest, and has a wide opening for maximum air intake, and often consists of a flexible material that improves its fit
• Semi-dry has a splash guard that prevents water from running into the pipe if a wave washes over it. The pipe will however still fill with water if you dive below the water surface with it. However, the water can easily be removed again, especially if the snorkel has a bottom valve
• A full-dry snorkel shuts off the water completely, even when diving below the surface of the water. It does however have a bit of buoyancy, which can cause a pull on the diving mask, and in turn cause it to leak. Therefore, they work really well for snorkelling on the water surface, without fear of water running down the pipe

The main difference between diving fins centres around whether they come with a firm heel or heel strap. The firm heel provides good stability to the foot, where it is easier to transfer the energy from the leg kick out to the fins for maximum thrust. This also means they are not quite as flexible and can be difficult to adjust in its fit.

Diving fins with heel straps, on the other hand, provide a high degree of flexibility that makes it easier to adjust them so that they have the most optimal fit. It also makes them much easier to control in the water, especially during strong leg kicks and the small adjusting micro-movements.

The advantage of investing in a full diving kit - rather than buying the individual parts separately - is that everything fits together perfectly. This provides a high level of comfort and increases safety out on the water - especially when it comes to kids.
