Combo Dive Kits – Recommendations

If you are going on a snorkelling trip, it is of course necessary to have a good snorkel and diving mask. However, sometimes the snorkel and diving mask won’t fit perfectly. Because of this we have combined different snorkelling sets that each have their different advantages.

To get the full benefit of a good snorkelling trip, it is important that you have a snorkelling set that suits the different needs and wishes you have. When it comes to snorkelling, there are 3 different types of snorkels, and each of them comes with their own strengths and weaknesses. The differences regarding the diving masks are usually limited to whether the glass is one-piece or two-piece. In addition, comes the skirt and strap itself, where the parts are available in different designs, constructions, and comfort.

If we start with the snorkels, they can be obtained as a J-shaped, semi-dry or full-dry snorkel. A J-shaped snorkel is the simplest of them, which in its design is a long, open pipe without safety measures such as a splash guard, safeguard and bottom valve. They are easy to use and can be very flexible, making them easy to customise. A good beginner snorkel that is great for kids.

Semi-dry snorkels have a splash guard at the top that prevents water from running down the pipe, if the top is for example washed over by a wave. The pipe will however fill with water if you dive below the water surface, which has the advantage that it does not give buoyancy. You do, however, have to empty the pipe of water, when you get back over the surface, which you can do by using the bottom valve.

A full-dry snorkel, on the other hand, will prevent water from running down the pipe, even if you dive below the surface of the water. It provides a closed system where you are not bothered by water at the mouthpiece, but the air in the tube will create buoyancy, which can pull the diving mask. It can tear the skirt of the diving mask from the face, thusly allowing water to leak into the diving mask.

When it comes to the diving masks we recommend, what they all have in common is that they have a soft, waterproof and comfortable skirt that fits snugly to the face. And then they can be divided into the ones having a full lens that provides an unobstructed view, while others have a two-piece one, which makes them more durable.

Apart from this, there is also a difference in the skirt itself, where those with a transparent skirt provide as much light as possible, and therefore a wider field of vision. Those with coloured skirts make it easier to focus on what's in front of you without being disturbed by what's seen in the peripheral view. Since they also do not let in as much light, they are good in very strong lighting conditions.
