Are you one of the many Danes heading to Italy for a summer holiday soon?
Then there’s at least one thing you need to sort out first.
Reports have surfaced about toxic fireworms on Italian beaches. These worms can be dangerous as their bristles deliver an intense sting.
Itching, redness, and swelling can quickly ruin your vacation and make you pack up your beach bags in a hurry.
But luckily, there’s a simple solution: Water shoes
Also saves the Danish summer
A good pair of water shoes not only keeps toxic fireworms away, but they also protect against sharp seashells, glass shards, and the dreaded weever fish hiding in the Danish sand.
Water shoes mean fewer worries and fewer tears. You won’t need to play emergency doctor, and especially the kids can run around freely without constant warnings to "be careful."
It’s a pure win-win for holiday peace.
Tip: Choose water shoes with a solid rubber sole and good breathability, so your feet don’t overheat in the sun.
The right gear makes a difference
When it comes to the little ones, safety is everything. Children don’t think about hidden dangers beneath the surface, so the gear needs to be right before they even touch the water’s edge.
Besides water shoes, there are three things that should always be in the beach bags for families with children:
-
Swim vests with a good fit: Forget those irritating armbands that scratch the arms. A good swim vest gives the child maximum freedom of movement and keeps them safely afloat.
-
UV swimwear: Sunscreen washes off quickly in the waves. UV clothing with factor 50+ protects the delicate skin of children from the relentless southern sun.
-
Cool diving masks: Turn swimming into playtime. With a good mask, kids can watch the seabed (and those silly fireworms) as they explore life underwater.
If the worst happens and you get stung by a fireworm, don’t worry. Carefully remove the bristles from the fireworm with tape or clean, dry fingers. It’s a good idea to wash the area afterward with cold water, disinfect, and keep it cool.
