How to care for your competition swimwear

Racing swimsuits and jammers are technical gear with bonded seams and applied labels. They last longer and keep their fit and compression when you treat them gently:

• Rinse right away in cold, clean water after every use — even after swimming in chlorinated or saltwater. Don’t wait until you get home.
• Hand wash only. Never use a washing machine or dryer. Heat, spinning, and rubbing will wear out the fibers and loosen the seams and labels.
• Use mild soap or detergent made for swimwear. Skip the bleach and fabric softener.
• Never wring out your suit. Gently press the water out.
• Lay flat to dry in the shade, out of direct sun, away from radiators or other heat sources.
• Don’t leave your swimwear wet in a bag or rolled up in a towel — it traps heat and chemicals that wear down the fabric.
• Avoid rough surfaces like pool edges and tiles, which can snag and damage the seams and labels.
