Swimming pool

When summer hits Ireland, there is no better place to be than your own garden, and what could be more refreshing and entertaining than a paddling pool? A garden paddling pool is a popular choice in summer for the whole family. It can range in size from small, personal paddling pools to large, family-friendly paddling pools. Regardless of your age or preferences, a paddling pool in the garden is the perfect way to enjoy the summer and experience joy and relaxation.

How big should your paddling pool be?

When you consider adding an inflatable paddling pool to your garden, it is important to choose the right size. The size of your inflatable paddling pool depends on several factors:

  1. Space: Start by thinking about the available space in your garden or the area where you want to place the paddling pool. It is crucial to ensure there is sufficient space around the paddling pool so it is easy to get in and out of the water, and that it is not too cramped.

  2. Use: Consider how you will primarily use your inflatable paddling pool. If it is mainly for personal relaxation or for one person, a smaller paddling pool may be sufficient. If you plan to host pool parties or want space for several people at once, consider a larger inflatable paddling pool.

  3. Budget: Choose a size that fits your budget. Remember that larger inflatable paddling pools are often more expensive, so it is important to find the right balance between size and cost.

  4. Number of Users: Think about how many people will regularly use the paddling pool. If it is mainly you or your small family, a smaller paddling pool may be sufficient. For larger families or if you want to invite friends, it may be wise to choose a larger paddling pool.

  5. Climate: The weather conditions in your area also play a role. If you live somewhere with long and hot summers, a larger paddling pool can provide more comfort and entertainment on hot days. If the summer is shorter and more temperate, a smaller paddling pool may be sufficient.

  6. Square paddling pool: When the sun starts to shine and the summer heat sets in, there is nothing better than taking a refreshing dip in your very own paddling pool. A square paddling pool is a popular and modern solution that fits perfectly in your garden. In this guide we will explore why a square paddling pool may be the right choice for you and your family.

By taking these factors into account you can make an informed decision about the size of your inflatable paddling pool. Remember that regardless of the size you choose, it will still bring lots of fun and relaxation to your summer experience. So look forward to splashing around in your inflatable paddling pool and enjoy the summer to the fullest!

Cleaning the paddling pool with chlorine

To ensure that your paddling pool remains in perfect condition, it is important to follow some simple maintenance routines. Regular cleaning, use of the right chemicals for the paddling pool and protection with a cover or lid are key to extending the lifespan and enjoyment of your paddling pool.

Having a paddling pool in the backyard is a pleasure, but it requires regular maintenance to ensure that the water remains clean and safe to swim in. Chlorine is a crucial ingredient in this maintenance process.

What does chlorine do in the paddling pool? Chlorine plays a central role in keeping your paddling pool hygienic. It kills bacteria, algae and other microorganisms that can thrive in paddling pool water and cause health problems.

How do you use chlorine? Using chlorine for paddling pool cleaning is simple. You add chlorine in the form of tablets, granules or liquid chlorine directly to the water. It dissolves gradually and helps maintain the right concentration for effective disinfection.

Remember to replace the water Even with proper chlorine treatment, remember to replace the water regularly, especially in warm weather, as bacteria thrive in warm water. The frequency of water replacement depends on the size of the paddling pool.

Chlorine is your reliable helper for keeping your paddling pool clean and safe. So make sure you have the right chlorine product and monitor the chlorine and pH levels

When the Irish summer shows itself at its best, we all - especially the children - dream of one thing: a cold dip. But you and the children do not need to pack the car or sit in traffic to the beach to cool down. A paddling pool in the garden is more than enough for hours of fun, relaxation and holiday atmosphere for the little ones.

At Watery we have gathered a wide selection of paddling pools - primarily for children, but also for adults. You can find all the models on this page.

How to choose the right paddling pool

It can quickly feel like a jungle to navigate the many models and sizes. Should it be large and deep, or small and safe? The choice depends both on the space in the garden and - most importantly - the children's age.

Here are the 3 things you should look for to choose right the first time:

1. Choose size according to the child's age

When you look at paddling pools for children, safety and security are the keywords.

  • For the smallest (0-3 years): Here we recommend a smaller pool with low water level, so the child can always stand and feel secure. Many of our models for the little ones come with built-in shade, so you protect the delicate child's skin from the sun while play continues.

  • For the older children (4+ years): When their motor skills are in place, the need for space for wilder play increases. Here the pool should be more robust (preferably in heavy-duty PVC), so it withstands jumping, water fights and toys.

  • For the whole family: Do you also want the option to cool down yourself? Then consider the larger family models, where there is room for an adult to sit comfortably along the edge while the children play in the middle.

2. Check the space in the garden

Before you fall in love with the largest model, it's a good idea to measure up in the garden. Remember that there should be space around the pool, so you can easily get to and from the water without tripping. We recommend that you add about half a meter on each side when you measure - it also makes maintenance and cleaning much easier.

3. Round or square paddling pool?

The shape is not only about appearance, but about how you best use the space. A square paddling pool is a popular and modern solution that is often easier to place on a patio or in a corner of the garden than the classic round models. It often provides more bathing area per square meter, which is perfect for the smaller garden.

How to avoid your paddling pool getting punctured

There is nothing worse than coming out to a flat pool in the middle of a heatwave. Punctures can happen, but our experience tells us that in the vast majority of cases it is not due to a fault in the pool, but rather the surface it sits on.

Whether you have bought a large Bestway paddling pool for the whole family or a small baby paddling pool for the youngest in the family, it takes a bit of preparation to ensure a long lifespan.

Follow these 3 steps to secure the pool as best as possible:

  • Clean the area thoroughly: Before you inflate the pool, remove all sharp stones, branches, thistles and other things that can puncture the bottom. Check the area once more, it really pays off.
  • Always use an underlay: Always place a base cover, foam mat or an old rug under the pool. It acts as a buffer between the ground and the pool and protects the bottom from wear and invisible small stones.
  • Empty and lift the pool, do not drag it: A classic mistake is dragging the pool across tiles or grass when you need to move it. It will wear a hole in the bottom immediately. Bad idea. So make sure the pool is placed in the right spot, before you fill it with water.

That's why an inflatable paddling pool is a hit every summer

There is a reason that the inflatable paddling pool returns to Irish gardens year after year. It is indeed the easiest, cheapest and quickest way toholiday atmosphere at home. Here you can avoid expensive landscapers and major digging projects, you only need air and water.

First of all, the setup is completed in no time. With a good electric pump you can inflate the pool in just a few minutes.

At the same time you get enormous flexibility. Do you need the space on the lawn for a garden party, or should the pool come along to the summer house? Then you just let the air out, and voila, it takes up nothing. It is especially an advantage with a baby paddling pool, which can easily be packed into the car for a trip to the grandparents.

How to best maintain your paddling pool

Clean water in the paddling pool is just as important as clean water in the pool. You have to remember to keep the water clean. Unfortunately bacteria thrive far too well in the lukewarm garden water - but with just a few routines you can keep the water nice and inviting all summer.

Always start with the pH balance

Many make the mistake of simply pouring chlorine into the water and thinking that everything is fine. But in fact the pH value is the key to it all. If the water's pH value is not neutral (between 7,0 and 7,4), your cleaning products do not work optimally at all - so avoid pouring in too much. Therefore always make sure to measure and adjust the pH value first of all.

Disinfection and cleaning

Once the balance is in place, the water must be kept bacteria-free. For the smaller paddling pools for children we often recommend child-friendly care products that are gentle on the skin but still effective against dirt.

Watery-tip for the smallest pools:
If you have a very small paddling pool for the little ones (typically under 300-400 litres), it can often pay off best to completely skip the chemicals. Instead empty the pool every evening, and use the water to water the garden's flowers. That way you start with fresh, clean water every single day - completely without chemicals.
