Neoprene set - Recommendations
With the right wetsuit, open water swimming can be enjoyed year round, almost no matter how cold the water is. It does however only protect the body, arms, and legs from the cold water, which means that the head, hands, and feet are the most exposed to the cold. Here, you must keep in mind that the body automatically protects the body and vital organs with heat, when it is exposed to cold water.
This can lower the blood flow to hands and feet, which can make them stiff, numb and make them cramp - and then the shore can suddenly seem very far away. Apart from this, you should also keep in mind that most of the body’s exchange of heat happens through the scalp. If you swim in cold water with an exposed head, you will experience that the body continues to cool down, even when wearing a wetsuit.
For these reasons, a neoprene set is indispensable if you are going out to swim / play in open water.
When choosing the neoprene set, the price - and hereby the quality - is important, and on colder months also the thickness of the neoprene.
