Our absolute top model when it comes to the best wetsuits for women, is this Calder Rapid for women. Created for experienced/good swimmers, where seconds, convenience, and full flexibility count. Packed with features such as YKK breakaway zip, 100% Yamamoto #39 neoprene, SCS surface coating for reduced water resistance, taped seams in legs and arms for durable stitching and Speed-cuff panels on forearms for better grip on the water.
The Calder Rapid is constructed in the world's best neoprene, Yamamoto #39, as opposed to other types which are made on a base of oil, Yamamoto is made on a base of limestone. In addition to durability, it provides the very special flexibility in every corner of the suit.
The neoprene thicknesses are made in a special composition intended for better swimmers who need great flexibility and buoyancy, especially on the thighs. Therefore, in Calder Rapid there is generally less buoyancy in the legs and on the chest than typical wetsuits, but in return the highest degree of flexibility in the arms. This is achieved with only 1.5 mm thick neoprene in the armpits and neck, 2 mm on the arms, 2.5 mm on the legs, 3 mm on the chest and back and 3.5 mm. on the thighs. This means that the effortless swimmer will lie high and naturally in the water, but still have the unique flexibility.
The suit's unique break-away YKK zip, which is only found on the Calder Rapid, makes it extremely fast to get in and out of. A mesh cord is attached to this, which makes it easy to zip down the zip on the go.
The grip on the water is especially important for experienced swimmers. Therefore, the 1.5 mm Speed-cuff panels on the forearms will feel like your own skin, as they grab the water to the arms and thus make the arm grip more powerful when you move your arms through the water. Reducing the buoyancy in the arms in particular will also result in less fatigue in the arms, as you are not fighting the natural buoyancy that a thicker neoprene will provide during a natural swim stroke.
A typical irritation is also the claustrophobic feeling that many people get around the neck when wearing a wetsuit. We have eliminated this by making the neckline lower, just as the ultra-thin 1.5 mm Yamamoto #39 neoprene has also been used here, which provides an optimal mix between flexibility and longevity.
The Calder Pro is obviously also equipped with our special 2 mm transition panels on the inside of the lower legs, to be able to change into T1 extremely quickly.
At the same time, the entire wetsuit has a smooth-skin surface treatment, which prevents water from penetrating the neoprene and thus prevents you from getting wet on the inside, causing the suit to become heavy to swim in. The water, on the other hand, bounces off, which also minimizes the time for drying the wetsuit after swimming. The Smooth skin also lays down a protective layer that makes it resistant to nails or quick-removal of the wetsuit, which typically leaves annoying holes.
The correct treatment of the wetsuit after each trip in the water is crucial for a longer durability. The neoprene in the wetsuit is damaged over time by too much salt (in the sea) or too much chlorine (in a swimming pool).
You should wash the wetsuit in cold water after each use and if it has become particularly dirty add a bit of pH-neutral soap to maintain the neoprene optimally.
Then it should be hung to dry until the moisture both inside and outside is gone before it is folded up / put away. This can either be done indoors (with ample ventilation) or outdoors (but not in direct sunlight).
When the wetsuit is to be stowed away, it is important that you do not just crumple it up. Instead, it should be hung on a hanger across the middle so that it does not fold on the most sensitive areas (shoulders, arms, legs) and the construction of the wetsuit is maintained.
