Competitive swimming trunks have completely different advantages compared to normal swimming trunks.
Basically, all competition swimming trunks are made of polyamide and elastane, which makes them highly water-repellent and very elastic. This means they mould to the contours of your legs for a snug fit. Their water-repellent properties mean they don't absorb water and therefore won't be heavy to swim with.
In addition, the competition swimming trunks also provide a unique compression that increases blood flow to the muscles. This means that you can get rid of acid more easily, which reduces fatigue whilst in the water.
The special design of the competition swimming trunks also means that they have no seams or stitching on the surface. The slightest unevenness on a pair of competition swimming trunks will create turbulence and water resistance. It also matters that competition swimming trunks are composite or “fused” together, so there are no seams on the inside either. As they are very tight, this could irritate the skin.
