At competitions, it’s often a matter of milliseconds, hence why you should always choose a narrower goggle, that takes up less room on the face. You want to avoid a “clumsy” goggle that blocks the water, but has rounded edges, so the water can pass naturally. 

It would be wise to pick a goggle with a big 180 degree vision, so you can always orient yourself on the track and your competition while under pressure.

And the worst thing possible can absolutely not happen: Getting water in the goggles, or they burst after the typical starting jump. Hence, both the durability of the straps and the fit of the eyecups is crucial.

Most swimmers at competitions typically prefer to swim with mirror glass. Apart from the fact that it gives a nicer look, it also ensures that you don’t get blinded when sun enters the pool and gets reflected off the water.

When it comes to age, all “adult” competition swim goggles are as standard made from 10-12 years and up, and always equipped with replaceable nose bridges, to make them fit just right. If you’re younger, you should go for a “junior” goggle.
